J.E.S. Publishing Company Guidelines
The following guidelines will help you support your child’s efforts in preparing a story for publication:
- This is a voluntary, extra-curricular assignment that is prompted by interest from the student.
- This is meant to be a long-term project, not a homework assignment.
- The writing and illustrating is to be the student’s work. The student is expected to use sight words correctly
and stretch spell other words as needed. Words that are familiar to the student should be spelled correctly.
- The student is to develop the topic and story line.
- Upon request from the student, your child’s teacher will distribute front and back cover paper.
- There must be a minimum of 7 pages to a story (there may be more). Use 8 ½ X 11 inch paper, one side
of the paper only.
- Include a title page (a dedication is optional).
- Illustrations may be done in crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
- The front cover must include an illustration, a title, and the name of the author and illustrator.
- A J.E.S. volunteer will “publish” the book (assemble pages, laminate front and back cover, and bind together).
- After the book is published, the author will read the book to the class. The author may then
place the book in the classroom library for other students to read, or take it home.
Happy Writing!
